Last Wednesday, March 28th, was one of the best days of my life. I was honored to speak to inmates at the Sterling Correctional Facility, the place where I was incarcerated for the majority of my 15-year sentence. I spoke to them about the challenges of exiting prison and reentering into free society. There were over 100 inmates in attendance, all of them due to be released in the next 60-90 days. I was elated when many of them came up to me after my speech and told me how much I educated and inspired them.
None of this would have been possible without the help from my friend Kristin Cardenas. She is the force behind the Denver Arts and Skills Center (DASC), an organization that helps both incarcerated and formerly incarcerated adults find healing through art. I am honored to be part of DASC, and we look forward to helping and inspiring incarcerated and formerly incarcerated men throughout the state of Colorado and beyond
