I was honored to be the keynote speaker at the 49th annual Spring Conference of the Colorado Municipal Judges Association (CMJA). Only through intense self reflection and taking responsibility for my illegal actions have I come to respect these judges for their grace and professionalism in performing such yeoman work. My speech was characterized as inspirational, thought provoking, and troubling. Why troubling? Because judges know that prison does a poor job of preparing offenders for reentry into society, and they are looking for people like me to give them feedback and potential guidance as to how to more effectively deal with this problem.
