Today’s Denver Post discusses a rise in inmate deaths and suicide attempts and how jails and prisons are trying to combat this with many suicide prevention strategies. Despite their efforts, in my opinion this will always remain a huge problem. If an inmate is intent on self harm, he/she will find a way. It is very difficult to obtain good mental health care while incarcerated. Most importantly, an inmate has to want and reach out for help. Many fail to do so, resulting in major problems.
